Gary Moses Joins Tennessee Millionaires Club

Gary Moses - Millionaires ClubCheck out the big red sign behind Larry Moses. It says, "Tennessee Millionaires Club" and there's Gary holding a big million dollar check. Must be nice to be in the millionaires club - I want in too!

Actually, there's no formal Tennessee Millionaires Club. When I searched for it, I found that it was just the name of a new instant scratch game and not a prestigious club for snotty Tennesseans. Oh well.

Nevertheless, Gary Moses won $1 million in Powerball in August of 2009. He matched all of the white ball numbers and that would have won him $200,000. But he bought the Power Play option for an extra dollar, which turned his $200,000 win into a $1 million win. Nice!

At the time of his win, Gary Moses lived in Atoka, Tennessee (About 25 miles from Memphis). He said that he didn't know what he would do with the money, but siad that it will come in handy for a trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon that he was planning even before winning the lottery.

MyLotto Winner Dee Cleaver Spins Winning Wheel After Getting Serial Number Drawn

Dee Cleaver - MyLottoDee Cleaver's lottery numbers didn't come up, but she still won big - That's because the serial number on her MyLotto ticket came up! How did the woman from Auckland, New Zealand win big with a ticket serial number? New Zealand gives out prizes for that.

This is what happens with the lottery in New Zealand. During every Saturday's live lottery draw, a serial number from all tickets sold that week also gets drawn. If you match the drawn serial number, you will get a chance to appear on a future live draw to spin the "Winning Wheel." The Winning Wheel has prizes on it, ranging from $100,000 to $1 million, and even has other prizes like Mercedes Benz' and Audis. Not only that, the person with the winning serial number gets an all-expenses paid trip to Wellington, NZ, which also includes accommodations for the winner and a guest to stay at a luxury hotel. Not bad at all!

Dee Cleaver, from Auckland, New Zealand, had her serial number drawn and she got to spin the Winning Wheel in September of 2009. She won a whopping $250,000 ($250,000 New Zealand dollars = $181,000 USD).

Dee said that she has plenty of ideas on how to spend her money. Those ideas include buying a new car, a house, traveling the world, paying off her student loans, and setting up a business (Actually, that's quite a bit of spending that she has planned; somebody needs to tell her that she needs to slow it down because it's not like she won millions of dollars!)

Lottery Syndicate Winners From Doon Inn Pub In Blantyre, South Lanarkshire

Lottery Syndicate Winners
The men pictured above are members of a lottery syndicate (Commonly known as a lottery pool in North America) from the Doon Inn pub in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, UK. They are regulars at the pub and play the lottery together. In September of 2009, the syndicate players were big winners. They won £4,525,058 ($7,219,217 USD).

The syndicate had nine members: Bobby McLauchlan, Sandy Morton, William Morton, Jim McGrail, Iain Macdonald, plus four others that didn't want to be named. That means that each of the members won £502,784 ($802,135 USD).

The owners of the pub said that the place erupted last Saturday nught when they found out that they won. It was a big party. She said that the win couldn't have happened for a better group of guys. I'm sure they're happy, too, since the guys probably spent a lot of money partying at the Doon Inn pub last weekend.

Playing the lottery ast a syndicate or pool, as the guys from Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, UK now know, really helps to increase your probability of winning. Consider this example: Say you play a 6/49 game. Your odds of winning the 6/49 lotto jackpot are approximately 1-in-14-million. Now, say you buy two tickets for each draw. Your odds of winning would then be 1-in-7-million. Instead of playing on your own, let's say you were part of a syndicate of 10 people that each put in money for two tickets. That would be twenty tickets in total. Your odds of winning, as a group, would then be 1-in-700,000. That's much better than playing on your own, isn't it?

Anthony Sizemore Splits Powerball Lottery Prize With Daughter Hillary

Anthony Sizemore With Daughter HillaryYou dream about winning the lottery, right? Well, what do you think is the next best thing to actually winning it? The answer is... Someone you know wins it and gives you have the prize. Ya, that would be awesome too!

Just ask Hillary Sizemore. She knows how it feels. That's because her father won a $200,000 Powerball prize in June of 2009 and gave her exactly half of his winnings.

Anthony Sizemore won the second prize of $200,000 in Powerball by matching all of the white ball numbers. And, being the great father that he is, split the prize with his daughter, Hillary.

At the time of his win, Anthony Sizemore said that it was perfect timing. That's because he was laid off from his job as a machinist ten months prior and was looking for work. Actually, his daughter, Hillary, was also looking for a job at that time. She had just graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in Psychology. The $100,000 that her dad gave her, she said, would go towards paying off her student loans.

Congratulations to the lucky father and daughter on their lucky win!

William James Albertson - Lucky Mega Millions Winner Of $75 Million

William James AlbertsonBeing a married, 35-year-old, father of four with college debt to pay off must be hard on the finances. Just ask William James Albertson, a man from Mahopac, New York. That's the situation that he was in while he was working a career as an insurance manager. What could help someone in this situation? Why, winning the lottery, of course!

William James Albertson won $75 million in the Mega Millions lottery on the November 2, 2007 draw. And, boy, was he ever lucky. I mean, you gotta be lucky to win a lottery jackpot where the odds of winning are approximately 1-in-175-million. Some people spend hundreds of dollars on each draw trying to win the jackpot. And, some of them don't ever win anything. But not William (WJ, as his friends call him). WJ had only ever bought two lottery tickets in his lifetime. The first time was a week before he won the big jackpot. The second time, of course, was when he won the jackpot. If only we could be so lucky.

William James Albertson was inspired to play the lottery by his father when his father came to visit him. WJ's father lives in Illinois and on his trip to visit his son in New York State, he bought a lottery ticket in every state that he had to pass through. There were no big jackpots won by his father, so maybe luck doesn't run in the family.

At the time of his win, WJ said that he didn't plan any big purchases. For his kids' sake, he didn't want to make any drastic changes to their lifestyle and wanted to keep things as normal as possible. He also said that he planned to retire early. That's a good thing - Lottery winners should not be working in the insurance industry; insurance is just too boring.

Retirement Is Finally Possible For $97 Million Powerball Winner Carl Hunter

In January of 2008, Carl Hunter owned a construction business but he was 73-years-old and wanted to retire. Actually, he wanted to retire for many years prior to that, but he just wasn't sure if his savings would last him. So he kept working.

Carl also played Powerball. He normally bought one ticket for each draw. He already had a ticket for the January 16, 2008 draw. Then his wife sent him to the store to buy some milk. He bought the milk and had some spare change left over. So, he bought one more Powerball ticket. And, guess what? That's the ticket that he won a massive jackpot with. $97 million!

So, Carl Hunter wanted to retire for years. Then he won the lottery. What do you think he did next? Retire? No! He went back to work. He didn't even claim his Powerball jackpot for almost four months. He said that he needed to wind down his construction business before claiming the money. But in May of 2008, Carl claimed his winnings and is now officially retired. It's about time!

The Losisiana man said, "That's why you buy lottery tickets - To fulfill the dream of not having to work anymore." At 73-years-old, Carl got to fulfill his dream... Finally!

So what did Carl Hunter say he would do with the money? He said that he's not the type of guy that spends a lot of money, so his life won't change much - Except for the retirement part!

She scratched it and won the $100,000 top prize on her birthday. She said that her 48th birthday was "incredible!" Ya, winning $100,000 would make any day incredible.

At the time of her win, Renae Smith was 48-years-old, living in Gainesville, Georgia (About 50 miles from Atlanta), and a grandmother of five. She said that she would use the money to pay off some bills.

Port Charlotte Lottery Winner Robert Marsh

Robert MarshPort Charlotte lottery winner, Robert Marsh, won $1 million in Florida Lottery's Billion Dollar Blockbuster instant scratch lottery game.

At the time of his win, Robert Marsh was 51-years-old and living in Port Charlotte, Florida, USA (Approximately 100 miles from Tampa).

The Billion Dollar blockbuster scratch-off game is a pretty big deal in Florida. That's because the game offers more than a billion dollars in instant-win prizes. That includes 10 prizes of $10 million and over 100 prizes of $1 million. A ticket costs $20 to play and the odds of winning the top prize of $10 million are approximately 1-in-6.5-million and the odds of winning the $1 million second prize, which Robert won, are 1-in-546,000. Those are great prizes and great odds for a lotto game.

Congratulations to Robert Marsh on his lucky win and to the future 100's of people that will win at least a million dollars in Florida's Billion Dollar Blockbuster game.

Canadian Lottery News - Lotto Max Winners Coming Soon!

Lotto Max LogoThe big news in Canadian lottery is that there is a new game starting today. It is called Lotto Max and will offer jackpots ranging from $10 million to $50 million. It won't be easy to win, though, as the odds of winning per $5 ticket purchased will be more than 1-in-28-million. That might be nothing compared to the odds of winning games like Powerball or EuroMillions, but nevertheless, it will be the worst odds for a Canadian lottery ever.

This blog will begin covering Lotto Max winners. So, check back every week to see if anybody has won a big jackpot in the game.

Lotto Max will draw every Friday night and it is replacing Lotto Super 7, which has now officially retired. Take a trip down memory lane and check out some of Lotto Super 7's big winners:

Gerald Muswagon: Won $10 million in 1988.
Mihkel Lougas: Won $2.5 million in December, 2008.
Lydia Nono: Won $20 million in July, 2009.
Ian Gibson: Won $5 million in April, 2009.

The bad news is that you can no longer win Super 7. The good news is that you can now win Lotto Max. Good luck and if you want to increase your odds of winning Lotto Max, try this system!

Scott Hoyt Wins Patriots Instant Ticket From MA Lottery

Scott HoytThere's a pretty cool trend in lotteries - Some lottery corporations are partnering with professional sports teams to create a cross-promotional lottery. Illinois Lottery has done it with the Chicago Blackhawks. Now, MA Lottery is doing it with the New England Patriots. They created the Patriots instant scratch game.

Scott Hoyt bought a Patriots scratch ticket and won $1 million. He was given his check at a pre-game ceremony at Gillette Stadium on August 20, 2009.

At the time of his win, Scott Hoyt lived in Rindge, New Hampshire and was an Air Force Reserve Master Sergeant. He's actually a huge New England Patriots fan and that's why he bought the ticket.

The Patriots instant scratch lotto game's top prize is $1 million, which Scott won. Actually, two of the $1 million prizes were won within the first week of the game's release by MA Lottery, one by Scott and another by a man named Derrick Gorman, from Plymouth, Massachusetts. There are ten $1 million prizes in total, meaning that after the first week, there were 8 left. The game also offers some other cool prizes, including five prizes of a pair of New England Patriots life-time season's tickets. Wouldn't that be a great prize for a Patriots fan?

I think these sports tie-in games are pretty cool and would love to see more of those types of games.

Ron Peterson Uses Statistics System To Pick Winning Lottery Numbers

Ron PetersonRon Peterson is a mechanical engineer and works in statistics. He also has a system of tracking lottery numbers and uses that system to pick winning numbers. It works! The proof is a big win.

Ron Peterson won the $200,000 second prize on Powerball in September of 2009 by matching all of the 5 white ball numbers.

Ron didn't say much about what statistics he uses to track numbers or how he picks them, although he did say that he plays different numbers each week. There are many systems that people use. Some work and some don't. Probably the most popular is this one.

Ron Peterson said that he would use the money to pay down some of his debt. After that he plans to take a vacation and put the rest in the bank.

Congratulations to Ron on his nice win!

California Lottery News - Michele Dickerson Wins $32 Million

Michele DickersonI always find it to be silly when lottery winners say that they'll keep working. The latest California Lottery news had Michele Dickerson win $32 million in September of 2009. After going in to California Lottery's prize claim office on the Monday after she won, Michele went in to work. WHY WHY WHY!?!?!

Ok, so Michele Dickerson said that she was raised to have a good work ethic. That's nice and all, but she just doesn't have to work any more! I hope she just retires and relaxes for the rest of her life. That's the dream of winning the lottery. Remember Don Grimard? He also went to work after winning the lottery. He lasted half a day. That's the way to do it!

Actually, the day Michele Dickerson went in to work after winning the lottery, she showed up with tears in her eyes. They were happy tears. Her co-workers thought that she was crying and thought that there must be something wrong. Then she told them that she was a lottery winner and that's when it broke into a company full of people jumping and screaming. Must have been fun!

Michele Dickerson considers the $32 million win a blessing, especially since her husband lost his job just a few months before.

With the money, Michele plans to buy a new house and, also, take her big family on a long vacation.

David Ashcroft Said Lottery Win Would Never Change Him - And Meant It!

David AshcroftYou know how you always see new lottery winners at the check presentation ceremony say that the lottery will never change them? Do you really believe that? Actually, sometimes it is true. Not everybody ends up like Jack Whittaker. David Ashcroft is one example of a man that really wasn`t changed by the lottery - AT ALL!

David Ashcroft won £12.3 million ($20,137,850 USD) in 1997. When he won the lottery, David said that he was an ordinary, quiet introvert and hoped that the lottery wouldn not change him. At that time, you probably would have laughed and thought, "Ya, right." After all, he won a fortune and could live a lavish life. Why the hell would he not want to change?

Fast forward to present day and you would see that David Ashcroft kept his word. He really did not change. Actually, he still lives in the exact same apartment as he did before he won the lottery - With his parents! And, prior to winning the lottery, he never had a girlfriend. To this day, he still does not have a girlfriend. He actually still wears the same clothes - Nothing fancy.

Why does David Ashcroft not spend? Some people that know him claim that he is afraid that if he ever became a big spender, he is afraid of what he might become.

David, however, is generous with other people. He has bought cars for family members, including a Ferrari.

Los Angeles Lottery Winner Xuong Do - How The Money Gets Spent

Xuong DoLos Angeles lottery winner, Xuong Do, won $1.1 million in the California Lottery in 1998. That's a great sum of money, but his story goes to show that a million dollars, when won in the lottery, is hardly a million dollars. Withing a few months of winning, he had about $200,000 left over. Here's where the money went:

As you probably know, when you win a jackpot in the United States, you don't actually get the entire jackpot amount - You get a lump-sum payment that is considerable less. In Xuong Do's case, he was left with $520,000. *** Side note: Canadians get a better deal - The advertised lottery jackpot amount is exactly what you get, all upfront.

From the $520,000, California Lottery withheld 28% for tax. That left Xuong Do with $374,000. *** Another side note, Canadians don't pay tax on their lottery winnings, none at all. They're so lucky!

With $374,000 left, Xuong Do spent money on some purchases - A trip to Hawaii for his parents, $30,000 worth of jewelry for his mother, and a new Ford Explorer for himself, among other things. He was left with just $200,000.

That last $200,000 is partially earmarked to help his family, mainly to help pay college costs for his siblings.

Xuong Do was a 23-year-old man living in Los Angeles when he won $1.1 million in the lottery. As we can see, $1.1 million is hardly $1.1 million, but, hey, it's still a lot of money and, at that age, it really helped him start his adulthood.

$21 Million Lotto 649 Jackpot Winner Michael Honey From Scarborough Ontario

Michael HoneyThe September 19, 2009 Lotto 649 estimated jackpot was $21 million. Ticket sales were lower than expected (Probably because so many people spent their weekly lottery money on the last-ever Super 7 draw the night before), so the final jackpot total was $20,409,383. There was only one winning ticket sold and the ticket owner was Michael Honey, from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

When Michael Honey checked his lottery ticket at the store, he couldn't believe it. He thought something was wrong. It's not every day that people win over $20 million dollars, so I don't blame him.

At the time of his big jackpot win, Michael Honey was single, 44-years-old, living in Scarborough (Scarborough is the crappy part of Toronto), and working at Symcor as a business analyst.

So, what does Michael plan to do with his new wealth. First things first, he is going to buy a wireless internet stick for his laptop. What else? The rest goes in the bank. He wants to think things over before making any lavish purchases.

Michael Honey's motto has always been that if you're gonna win the lottery, you'll win it with just one ticket. So, he only bought one Lotto 649 ticket for the draw that he won. Although it's true that you can win the lottery with just one ticket, you should also use a good lottery playing strategy, like this one!

Indianapolis Lottery Winner Thomas Sturm Spends Extra $1 On Power Play

Thomas SturmIf you match the white ball numbers on Powerball, you win $200,000. But if you spend an extra $1 on Power Play, that $200,000 turns into $1 million. "For one extra dollar, why not purchase Power Play," is what Judith Sturm says. But she might be a little biased. That's because her husband, Thomas Sturm, won $1 million on Powerball because he had also purchased Power Play.

Lottery winner, Thomas, Sturm, of Indianapolis, Indiana, won $1 million on Powerball in August of 2009. Prior to his big win, he says that he had been playing the lottery for twenty years. He's won some money in the past, but this is his biggest prize ever.

So what do Thomas and Judith plan to do with their winnings? For starters, their dog, Murphy, needs hip replacement surgery. They love their dog and would do anything for him and, now, will be able to pay for the surgery.

Aside from the hip replacement surgery for Murphy, Thomas and Judith Sturm plan to redecorate their house, buy some new cars for their kids, and a red Cadillac CTS for Judith.

Mega Millions Winner Ben Chason Drives To Lottery Office On Sunday

Ben ChasonThe problem with playing lotteries that draw on Fridays and Saturdays is that if you win the jackpot, you have to wait until the lottery office opens on Monday to go claim your prize. The wait must be torturous. And, if Monday happens to be a holiday, it would just be unbearable. Ok, maybe not for everybody. Some lottery winners do take some time before making their claim, but not Ben Chason. He won a $163 million Mega Millions jackpot in September of 2006. He just couldn't wait for the lottery prize claim office to open.

Mega Millions draws on Tuesdays and Fridays. Ben Chason won the $163 million on a Friday draw. He checked his tickets on the Sunday. When he found out that he won, he immediately drove to Georgia Lottery's prize claim office in Atlanta. Ben lives in Chason, Georgia and the drive to Atlanta is about 200 miles. Must have been a nice ride!

At the time of his win, Ben Chason said that he had $600 in his bank account. Now, he doesn't need to worry about money ever again!

Ben Chason said that he would use the money to invest and to help his and his girlfriend's families, including building a new church for his brother, who was in the process of becoming a minister at the time.

Thunderball Lottery Winner Michael Edgar Killed His Ex-Wife

Michael EdgarSome people get a second chance at life. Michael Edgar is one of those people. His murdered ex-wife is not.

Michael Edgar killed his ex-wife in a fit of rage in 1986. He was 30-years-old at the time. She was 27. It happened in the heat of the moment when she taunted him. She died almost instantly as Michael stabbed her in the heart. Michael denied a murder charge, but he admitted to manslaughter. He spent three years in jail.

Michael got his second chance at life. He remarried and has kids and grand-kids. He also was the winner of £250,000 ($406,967 USD) in UK National Lottery's Thunderball game in August of 2009.

At the time of his win, Michael Edgar was 53-years-old, working at Anderson Construction, living in Dovercourt, England and supporting a family. He worked hard to support his family. They didn't have a lot, so the lottery win would really help a lot. He said that he didn't plan any major changes in his lifestyle because of the win, but he did plan to take his family on a vacation.

Gopher 5 Winning Lottery Numbers Come Up For Craig Dahl

Craig Dahl - Gopher 5 WinnerGopher 5 is a lotto game offered by Minnesota State Lottery where players must match 5-out-of-47 numbers to win the jackpot. Craig Dahl encompasses all 47 numbers in the ten sets of numbers that he plays each draw. All of the numbers are covered and he had been playing the same sets of numbers for 3.5 years. Finally, Craig's Gopher 5 winning lottery numbers came up. He won the jackpot!

Craig Dahl won the August 10, 2009 draw. The jackpot was $217,878 and there were two winning tickets worth $108,939. The other winning ticket was purchased by Dan Schenkein.

Dan Schenkein Gets Free Powerball Lottery Tickets But Wins Gopher 5

Dan SchenkeinThrifty White Drug store in Marshall, Minnesota had a promotion where the winner would get free Powerball tickets for a year. Dan Schenkein won that promotion. That was almost like winning the lottery (Ok, maybe not quite). So, he would have to go into the store to get his free Powerball tickets for each draw. But, while he was in the store, he often bought additional tickets. Ironically, he didn't win any Powerball jackpots, but he did win a Gopher 5 jackpot.

In August of 2009, the Gopher 5 jackpot was $217,878. There were two winning tickets sold. Dan Schenkein held one of the winning tickets which was worth $108,939. It's no Powerball jackpot but, still, not bad at all!

Dan Schenkein didn't say what he would do with the money that he won. But he did say that the win came at an opportune time. I don't know about you, bought any lottery win would come at an opportune time for me. Actually, the sooner the better!

McDonalds Instant Sweepstakes Winner Patrick Collier Wins $1 Million

Patrick Collier - Sweepstakes WinnerIn 2001, an employee of a marketing company that ran McDonalds' Monopoly sweepstakes game was charged with planning to swindle $13 million in winnings. Because of that, consumer confidence in McDonalds dropped. So the company needed to create some goodwill and decided to randomly give away 5 $1 million prizes and 50 $100,000 prizes to McDonalds customers.

In September of that year, corporate McDonalds workers were in a store in Holly Hill, Florida (Close to Daytona Beach) to randomly select a customer to gave away one of the $1 million prizes. They randomly selected Patrick Collier. He came in that day to buy a Sausage McMuffin. It costed 99 cents. He walked out with a million dollars.

That's Patrick Collier in the photo with his fiance at the time, Sandy Fabian. They look really happy don't they? Of course, they should be. Prior to the $1 million instant sweepstakes win, the couple were broke, living either in motel rooms or in cardboard boxes on the street.

With the win, Patrick Collier had a whole list of things that he would buy with the money, including a new Harley, and engagement ring for Sandy, and a new house.

The couple, who seemed so happy in the photo, might not have been so happy. Just two weeks after the $1 million instant sweepstakes win, Patrick Collier was charged with assaulting Sandy. According to police, Sandy was left bleeding from her nose and mouth. She also had a swollen cheek. She was treated at a hospital for head and
neck injuries.

Syracuse Lottery Winner Willie Burgess Loves Working At Sam's Club

Willie Burgess - Sam's Club employeeWillie Burgess loves his life. The 31-year-old man loves living in Syracuse with his fiance and six children and he loves working at Sam's Club. He says that five years from now, you'll still be able to find him in Syracuse, New York, working to support his family because, of course, he loves it there. The only difference will be that his finances will be much better. That's because he won $3 million playing New York Lottery's Stacks Of Cash instant scratch lottery game in August of 2009.

On August 31, Willie Burgess gave his uncle $10 and asked him to pick up a scratch ticket for him while he was at the store. It didn't really matter which one. So his uncle, then, came back with two tickets, one for him and one for Willie. He told Willie to choose which one he wanted. Willie chose the Stacks Of Cash game. His uncle didn't win anything, but Willie, of course, won $3 million!

Divorced Lottery Winner Raymond Sobeski - His Ex-Wife Settles For Her Share Of Money

Raymond SobeskiIn May of 2003, the Lotto Super 7 jackpot was $30 million. There was one winning ticket sold and, at that time, it was the single biggest lottery prize in Canadian history. The winner was expected to come forward shortly after the draw was held. Canadians wanted to know who the winner was. They waited... and waited... and waited. Canadian lottery prizes need to be claimed within one year. It was getting close to the one year deadline and still nobody claimed the prize. Then, 12 days before the ticket was set to expire, it was claimed by Raymond Sobeski. He finally got his money!

But what took so long? People play the lottery because they want to become instantly rich. Why would somebody wait almost a full year? Raymond Sobeski tried to explain why he took so long: "Due to the magnitude of it, I just wanted to make sure that I did everything right and try to remain calm about it." Ok, now we understand. Or do we? Might there have been an ulterior motive? Maybe so.

Raymond Sobeski had three ex-wives. Wendy Reid. Sherry Zylstra. Nynna Ionson. Perhaps he wanted to try his best to keep their hands off the money? Actually, he was married to wife number 3, Nynna Ionson, when he won the $30 million jackpot. By the time he claimed the money, they were divorced. Hmmm. Sounds fishy, doesn't it?

Nynna Ionson took Raymond Sobeski to court and sought half of his lottery fortune. In December of 2005, an agreement was reached but the terms were not disclosed.

Was That A Masked Bank Robber That Won The Lottery? No, It was Diana Jennings

Masked Diana JenningsNew York Lottery requires that big jackpot winners participate in a media event. It's to show that lottery winners are real and, also, to develop trust with the public. If you win the lottery, you have to show up, whether or not you want to. But there's no stipulation that you have to show your face, you just have to show up.

Diana Jennings won the New York Lottery jackpot in December of 2008. You could've mistaken her for a bank robber when she showed up for the media event. That's because she was in disguise, head-to-toe. But, no she wasn't a masked bank robber, she just didn't want her face to be recognized, even though we all know her name. She was disguised in a long coat, hat, scarf, and sunglasses.

The only thing that Diana Jennings said came from a statement from New York Lottery: "My family means everything to me. I'm so happy I can share this with them."

At least her family knows what she looks like!

At the time of her win, Lorie Scarbrough was 53-years-old and a grandmother of five. She lived in Buford, Georgia, USA.

Edmonton Lottery Winner Chris Trodden Wins King's Riches Instant Game

Chris TroddenSometimes people get sucked into gambling, be it at the casino or the lottery, when they get an early win. Say a new person walks into a casino for the first time and wins a few hundred dollars on the first spin of a slot machine. Winning might seem to easy for him and he might get hooked and end up back at the casino more often then he otherwise would.

It happens with the lottery too; an early win might suck a person in. Edmonton lottery winner Chris Trodden bought an instant scratch lotto ticket called King's Riches. He won $20 on that very first game. He liked that so much that he kept buying more tickets. And, it's a good thing he did because he ended up winning $100,000 on one of those King's Riches scratch lottery tickets!

At the time of his win, Chris Trodden was living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. When he first saw the $100,000 win, he couldn't believe his eyes. He thought that it must be a joke. He had to double-check the ticket to make sure it was real.

BCLC Lottery Winners Silas Man-Kin Cheung And Yi Hang

Silas Man-Kin Cheung And Yi Hang figured that they had a better shot at winning the lottery together than they would playing it individually. So they played together. They'd been doing it for four years. They played BCLC lottery games BC 49 and Lotto 6/49. Then they won. $4,189,659!

Friends, Silas Man-Kin Cheung And Yi Hang, won $4,189,659 on Lotto 6/49 in September of 2009. The funny thing is that at the time of the check presentation ceremony at BCLC lottery headquarters in Richmond, BC, Canada, Silas Man-Kin Cheung still hadn't told his wife about the big win. He said that he didn't know how to tell her, so he just hid the ticket under his mattress. I think she'll be able to handle the news very well!

Ibi Roncaioli - Lottery Winner Poisoned By Husband

Ibi Roncaioli - PoisonedWinning the lottery is supposed to be a dream come true; it's not supposed to be a heartache, right? Of course not. But sometimes winning the lottery could just be the biggest curse in your life. Take, Ibi Roncaioli, for example. Winning the lottery contributed to her murder - Death by poisoning by her husband.

Ibi Roncaioli and her husband, Dr. Joseph Roncaioli, should have had a beautiful life. Joseph was a gynecologist earned almost $20,000 a month with his practice. The couple should have been financially well off. They certainly didn't need to win a lottery. But in 1991, Ibi did win the lottery. She won $5 million playing Lotto 6/49. That should have been the icing on the cake. A wealthy doctor and a lottery win - What could be better? But there were problems.

Ibi Roncaioli's son described her as a mean drunk. She might have had a drinking problem. Ibi's accountant described her as a possible gambling addict, spending a lot of money at the casino. She would often blow $1000 a day at the casino. Perhaps that's how she won the lottery in the first place - Maybe she spent a lot more money than she should have on lotto tickets? Not only that, Ibi was described as secretive. She hid all the money from her husband. Joseph never actually knew how much money they had. He had no clue because the household finances were Ibi's job.

Little did Dr. Joseph Roncaioli that their finances were not as good as they should've been. Much worse, actually. They were burdened with debt. A lot of it. Their wealthy life was a mirage. They had no money. Soon after, Ibi Roncaioli was found Poisoned to death. She was dead. Jospeh was, subsequently, charged with manslaughter in her death and sentenced to seven years in prison in 2008.

Bifocaled Man Bobby Guffey Makes Huge Mistake - Plays Wrong Lottery Numbers

Bobby Guffey - Bifocaled ManPicture this scenario - You have your set of lottery numbers that you have religiously played every week. That's EVERY WEEK! You've been playing those numbers for years. You know they'll come up won day and make you a millionaire, so you're prepared to play them until it happens. But one day, while you're at the store, you fill out the selection slip incorrectly. You get your tickets, but when you get home you realize the mistake. What do you do? Should you go back and buy a new ticket with the correct numbers? What if this week is your week and you screw it up with a dumb mistake? Yes, of course you should go back!

That's a scenario that played out to a bifocaled man in August of 2008. He filled out the lotto number selection slip incorrectly. When he got home, one of the numbers was incorrect - He chose 48, when it should have been 46. That's a huge mistake to a man that plays his usual set of numbers every week. And, the mistake happened because he forgot his bifocals at home. So, he went back and got a new ticket.

What do you think happened next? You guessed it, the wrong set of numbers won the jackpot! Thank God Bobby Guffey was blind that day! Bobby won $3 million playing Indiana Hoosier Lottery!

Let that be a lesson to you, folks - If you play the same numbers every week, it pays to make a mistake now and then!

Montana Wild Card Lottery Winner Daniel Nisbet

Daniel NisbetDaniel Nisbet won a Wild Card jackpot of $1,127,604 and he says he loves the game. Actually, so do I!

I always prefer to play games like Wild Card in place of the big jackpot games like Powerball or Mega Millions. Why? Because you actually have a realistic chance of winning. Take Powerball, for example; the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are approximately 1-in-195-million. Now, look at Wild Card; the odds of winning the Wild Card jackpot are approximately 1-in-1.36-million. Looking at it another way, if you buy a single ticket for each of the two lotteries, you are 143 times more likely to win Wild Card. Stunning, isn't it. Sure, Powerball might have bigger jackpots, but it's better to win something rather than nothing, right?

When Daniel Nisbet won the lottery, he said that he always prefers to play games like Wild Card and Hot Lotto because of the better odds. Now you know why!

At the time of his win, Daniel Nisbet was living in Helena, Montana, USA with his wife. He said that he would use the money to become debt-free and pay off his mortgage. He also intended to use the money to send his kids to college. Finally, he also considered retiring. That's what I would do if I was him - Retire!

As most people know, without the Power Play option, the second prize in Powerball would be $200,000. Peggy won the second prize, but got $1 million thanks to Power Play.

Peggi Crawn won her money on the July 25, 2009 Powerball draw. It was the next day that she found out that she was a winner. When she came to work at Dean's Deli and Market, an Oregon Lottery retailer, she scanned her ticket to find out if she won anything in the draw. The scanner said she was a $1 million winner. Needless to say, she quit her job.

Latest Mega Millions Winner: Jimmy Groves From Harlem, New York

Jimmy GrovesThe August 28, 2009 Mega Millions jackpot was huge: $336 million. There were two winning tickets sold for the draw. One was purchased in San Gabriel, California and the other was purchased in the Bronx, New york. That means that each ticket is worth $168 million. The ticket bought in the Bronx, apparently, belongs to a Harlem man named Jimmy Groves. Jimmy Groves says that he holds the ticket, although New York Lottery has yet to confirm that.

Jimmy told the New York Post that he was broke and had just defaulted on his credit card debt. He didn't have a even a dime in his pocket. So, he went into the store and asked for a lottery ticket on 26 installments. Actually, it seems that the poor, broke Harlem man has a sense of humor, though. Mega Millions pays out the jackpot in 26 installments, so Jimmy Groves used that to spin his pun. Just so you know, if you buy a $1 lottery ticket on 26 installments, that equals 3.85 cents per year, assuming zero interest.

As of today, Jimmy Groves has yet to claim his prize, but already has a massive headache from people asking for handouts. He's told his friends that he has one and, you know, news like this spreads fast. He says that he had been fielding 40 phone calls every morning from people begging for a handout. Many of those people he doesn't even know.

Jimmy Groves also said that he fears for his family's safety. Being a rich man, living in Harlem could do that to you.

Stephen Cooke Had Winning Lottery Numbers On Two Separate Tickets

Stephen CookeStephen Cooke spent one more dollar than he needed to to win the lottery, but it's a good thing that he did. Back in 2003, he was filling out the lottery selection slips for the Mega Millions draw on November 11, 2003. The jackpot for that draw was $70 million. He played a few tickets and used birthdays as numbers, mainly his and his mother's. What he didn't realize at the time was that two of the tickets had the exact same numbers.

When Stephen Cooke came around to checking the tickets, he found that one of them matched all of the winning numbers. Since there were three winning tickets sold, it meant that he won $23.3 million. That was awesome, so he didn't even bother to check the rest. He went down to the Atlanta prize claim office to get his money. That's where lottery officials started questioning him about where and when he bought his tickets. Little did Stephen know that they were questioning him because they knew that two of the three winning tickets were purchased at the exact same store and at the exact same time. They suspected that Stephen might own the other winning ticket.

A Georgia Lottery security guard then escorted Stephen Cooke back home so that he could retrieve his other tickets and have them checked. And, what do you know? Stephen had another winner. He mistakenly bought two tickets with the exact same numbers. He held two winning tickets worth $23.3 million each for a grand total of $46.6 million. Nice!

And, what a big investment it is - In September of 2009, the University of Oklahoma Medical Center announced that a recent investment from the couple will help them buy a mobile research unit to study diabetes in kids that live in rural areas. It will cost at least $800,000 and will be possible thanks in large part to the Powerball winners. Croatia Lottery (Hrvatska Lutrija) Winner Lenart Vukalovic Wins Cash & Car On Joker Plus

Lenart VukalovicEverybody's heard about the big lotteries like Powerball in the United States, Lotto 6/49 in Canada, EuroMillions in Europe, and SuperEnalotto in Italy. But there's many more countries around the world that have lotteries as well. I've written about some of them here, like Gosloto in Russia, Guam National Olympic Committee Sports Bingo Lottery, and Maxlotto in India. It's pretty cool reading about these regional lotteries of you have an interest in the lottery.

Croatia has a lottery too, Hrvatska Lutrija. One of the games they play is 7/39. The odds of winning the jackpot in a 7/39 game are approximately 1-in-15-million. Lenart Vukalovic got lucky and won the jackpot of 772,954 Croatian Kuna ($150,636 USD) in the 7/39 game.

But Croatia Lottery has a twist. For an extra 5 kuna, you can play an additional game called Joker Plus, where you could appear on a TV game show for a chance to win a car. That's a pretty cool concept that not too many lotteries do, although California Lottery has an interesting version of it.

Lenart Vukalovic actually won Joker Plus and appeared on the TV game show. On it, he won a Volkswagen Eos, valued at about $35,000. So, Lenart's grand total from the win, including the cash and car, was $807,954!

China Grove Lottery Winner Beth Prymock - Win Was Fate

Beth PrymockWas it fate that won Beth Prymock, of China Grove, North Carolina, the lottery? If she wasn't out doing a good deed, she would not have won. But she was out. She was doing an errand for her daughter. Beth's daughter, Kelly, called to ask her if she could go get her some bread so that she could make her son a sandwich for school lunch for the next day. Beth complied. While out buying bread, she picked up a few Powerball tickets for the August 29, 2009 draw. That's where she matched the first five numbers to win the second prize. Beth thought it was a $200,000 win.

But wait! Just a little while ago, a friend urged Beth to include Powerplay on her Powerball tickets. Powerplay, for an extra dollar, multiplies some prizes by up to five times, including the second prize, which Beth won. Since then, Beth Prymock had been playing Powerplay on her Powerball tickets. As fate would have it, that changed her $200,000 win into $1 million! Nice!

So, what does the lucky lady plan to do with her new-found wealth? First things first, she needs to buy a new pair of tennis shoes. Kind of reminds me about the man that bought an iPhone when he won the lottery. Other than the tennis shoes, she doesn't have any immediate plans for the money; she wants to take some time to think it over. Beth Prymock does, however, plan to keep working at her current job in the mental health field.

Generous Virginia Beach Lottery Winner Gives $10,000 Tip To Cashier

Virginia Beach Lottery WinnerHow would you like to be a cashier at a store? Doesn't sound too great, does it? Working long hours at minimum wage kind of sucks. But try asking Kim Woods if she minds. She sold a winning ticket to John Costner, who won $1 million. Luckily, John was a generous man and gave Kim Woods a tip of $10,000! How's that for being a cashier?

The generous man, John Costner, won $1 million playing Virginia Lottery's Tax-Free Million game, where the top prize is a tax-free $1 million.

John Costner, from Virginia Beach, was on his way to a fast-food restaurant in November of 2008 to get some breakfast for his son. On the way, he stopped at Malbon Brothers Corner Mart in Virginia Beach, where Kim Woods worked as a cashier, to pick up some lottery tickets. He purchased his tickets and left. Just a few moments later, he returned to ask the cashier to look at Tax-Free Million scratch game and to tell him if it's real. It was real! John was a millionaire! Of course, he returned to the same store a few days later to give the cashier a $10,000 tip.

Aside from the generous $10,000 tip, John said that he would put the rest of the money to good use. That includes making sure his mother, who is in a nursing home, is taken care of for the rest of her life.

New Hampshire's New 10% Lottery Tax Doesn't Perturb James Buchanan

James BuchananWhat do you do if the state you live in is scheduled to implement a new 10% tax on lottery winnings? Why, you win the lottery before the tax kicks in, of course!

That's what James Buchanan did. New Hampshire introduced a new 10% lottery tax (That's in addition to the federal tax on lotteries) which kicked in on July 1, 2009. But that didn't perturb James. He won the lottery and, subsequently, claimed his prize on June 30, 2009, the day before the new tax kicked in.

James won $1 million playing an instant scratch game called Million Dollar Riches.

The new 10% tax in New Hampshire isn't just for lotteries; it also includes winnings from all forms of gambling, including casinos, bingo, and track-betting.

Actually, the day before the tax kicked in was an unusual day for New Hampshire Lottery. It was the first time ever that two people claimed big prizes in the state on the same day. James Buchanan claimed his million dollars on that day, but so did another big winner named john Kasparek, a high school teacher that also won $1 million on an instant scratch game called NH Millionaire's Club. I guess they just wanted their money before paying a hell of a lot more in taxes.

Oh ya, James Buchanan said that he plans to use the money that he won to buy a new phone? Huh? A new phone? Ya, that's what he said.

Cash Ball Lottery Winner Dennis Quinn From Cloverport Kentucky

Cash Ball WinnerDennis Quinn won the Cash Ball Lottery jackpot of $200,000 from Kentucky Lottery in February of 2009. Dennis Quinn bought the winning ticket at the Powers Express store, located in Hardinsburg, KY.

Cash Ball is a pretty cool game from Kentucky Lottery that has decent odds of winning. Also, you could choose to play either a 50 cent ticket or a one dollar ticket. To win the top prize of $200,000, you have to buy a $1 ticket. Otherwise, the top prize for a 50 cent ticket is $100,000.

The odds of winning the top prize in the Cash Ball game are approximately 1-in-1.27-million. There are smaller prizes available to be won as well, ranging from $2 to $2000 on a $1 ticket, and and $1 to $1000 on a 50 cent ticket. The odds of winning the second prize (Either $1000 or $2000, depending on how much you spent on the ticket) is approximately 1-in-42,000.

Comgratulations to Dennis Quinn on his nice win!

Megabucks Winner Wayne Reavis - Your Lottery Dollars At Work!

Wayne ReavisOften times, when I drive through a construction zone on the highway, I'll see a sign that reads, "Your Tax Dollars At Work." Wayne Reavis must have a pretty cool sense of humor. Since he won the Megabucks lottery back in 2001, he's built a guest-house on his property. On the front porch of the guest-house is a sign that reads, "Your Lottery Dollars At Work." Funny!

Wayne Reavis won Oregon's Mega Bucks lottery jackpot of $8,750,000 in June of 2001. He bought the ticket at J'ville Tavern in Jacksonville, Oregon. Two days after the draw, he was back in J'ville, where the buzz was that someone bought the winning Megabucks ticket at that very tavern. So, Wayne took out his tickets and checked them. Lo and behold, it was him! He said that it didn't take very long for everybody at the bar to find out what just happened because there was a lot of yelling and screaming going on.

It's been a long time since Wayne Reavis won the Megabucks lottery. Since then, he had given some money to his to kids, donated to a local church, and donated to a local Shriners club. He didn't buy a bigger house or anything, but he did build a nice guest-house on his property.

Oh ya, there was also an airplane. That's right, Your lottery dollars at work can also get you an airplane! He uses the plan to go on vacations, including trips to a friend's fishing lodge in Canada. Wayne Reavis already had a pilot's license, even before he won the lottery. Years ago, he started a business called 'Logan & Reavis Aviation.' The company was an aircraft school.

Baltimore Lottery Winner Robert SantaMaria

Robert SantaMariaBaltimore resident, Robert SantaMaria, was at a pub when he noticed that the Mega Millions jackpot was $170 million. He wanted to be rich and, luckily, that pub was a lottery ticket retailer. So, he bought a few tickets.

That was for the draw on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Robert SantaMaria was so close. He almost won it all. He was off by just one number. He won $250,000. Sure, $250,000 is a lot of money, but it definitely isn't $170 million. The good news was that nobody won it. So Robert still had a chance on the next draw. He took the next day off work and went in to claim his prize. On his way out the door, he said he'd be back after he wins the $207 million jackpot that Friday.

Sorry Robert. You didn't win that $207 million jackpot. I know that because nobody won it. The jackpot was won by two people when it hit $325 million on August 28. Oh well, just be happy with your $250,000.

At the time of his win, Robert SantaMaria was living in Baltimore Maryland and working as a machinist.

Nevada Has No Lottery - Bill Kinkade Wins It In Oregon

Bill KinkadeNevadans love playing the lottery. The only problem is that the state of Nevada is one of only a handful of U.S. states that prohibit lotteries. But that doesn't stop residents from playing in other states. In fact, the closest lottery ticket retailer to Las Vegas is a small store in Primm Valley, California, just past the Nevada-California border, a 45-mile drive from Las Vegas. For this reason alone, it is the highest-selling lottery retailer in California.

Nevada has no lottery today, but that may change in the near future. The state is considering it to help alleviate a $3 billion budget deficit. It should be an easy sell since 70% of Nevada residents support a state lottery.

But none of this means that a Nevada resident has never won the lottery. Bill Kinkade won $12.2 million in August of 2009. He lives in Nevada, but won it while vacationing in Oregon. He was on a fishing and camping trip in Gold Beach, Oregon, when his wife needed to go and do laundry. So, Bill decided to pass time by going to the store, where he bought a Megabucks lotto ticket. Actually, he bought ten tickets and one of them won the jackpot of $12.2 million.

Bill Kinkade said that he planned to use the money to go on a lot more vacations, more fishing trips, and to buy a new boat.

Vinny Vella Sues NY Lottery To Get His $5 Million From Misprint Ticket

The next time you scratch an instant lotto ticket and find out you're a big winner, don't get excited. Calm down. The ticket might just be a misprint. What are the odds of that, you say? It might be more common than you think. I've written about it in the past when Thomas Noftall reached a settlement with Ontario Lottery and Gaming, which issued the misprinted scratch ticket. Now, Vinny Vella found out that his $5 million winning $500 Million Extravaganza ticket from NY Lottery was a misprint and is currently suing NY Lottery.

Vinny Vella's case, though, is getting public attention. that's because he's an actor whose filmogrophy dates back to 1994. He's appeared in The Sopranos and many movies, including Analyze That, Fetch, The Kings Of Brooklyn, and more. He's a well-known movie star.

Vinny Vella hired a lawyer to sue NY Lottery and I think that he will get his money. Barring that, he will reach a settlement, just like Thomas Noftall did. For that reason, I am putting Vinny in my lottery winners page and am including his $5 million in the running total of lottery wins.
