That's much better than a dollar!

Kris was very excited. Friends kept asking her if she'd keep working. Kris says that she will. She says the money is a blessing from God, but it is only temporary.

To Jorma, this was just another day, but with a big pay check. He wasn't surprised at the win because he says that he always knew that he would win. In fact, a psychic told him five years ago that he would be rich beyond his wildest dreams; so it was always a matter of when, not if.

Jean-Guy Lavigueur Of Quebec Loses Lottery Ticket And Stranger Returns It

Jean-Guy Lavigueur - Lost Lotto TicketWhat would you do if you lost a your wallet that contained a $7.6 million unclaimed lottery ticket? Do you think it would be returned if someone found it? OF COURSE IT WOULD! William Murphy already set the precedent.

In 1986, William Murphy found a lost wallet belonging to Jean-Guy Lavigueur. In it there were lottery tickets. He checked the tickets and found that one was a winner. So, he returned the wallet, belonging to Jean-Guy Lavigueur, but kept the tickets. The next day, William had a change of heart and went to return the tickets as well.

Jean-Guy Lavigueur couldn't believe that William Murphy returned a lottery ticket that was worth $7.6 million. So, he offered him a beer, as well as $1.27 million for his honesty; that's a one sixth share of the total winnings.

So the next time you lose a lottery ticket worth millions (I know, you have to actually win first), don't worry - The precedent has already been set; it will be returned!

Ihsan Khan - Urdu-Pushto-Speaking Pakistani Taxi Driver Kept Fortune Cookie

Ihsan Khan - Pakistani Lottery Winner

Ihsan Khan, an Urdu-Pushto-speaking Pakistani taxi driver, emigrated from Pakistan to the United States in 1977. He often slept in his cab, but one thing that always gave him hope was a fortune cookie message that he kept; it said, "Among winners, you are the chosen one." The fortune was right; he was chosen to win $55.2 million in the lottery in November, 2001.

Ihsan was living in Washington, DC at the time of his win, but ended up moving back to his hometown of Batagram in Pakistan. There, he was elected nazim, the equivalent of a mayor. He was outspoken and a big critic of the government and army.

Following a major earthquake in 2005, his hometown of Batagram was left in ruins. 4500 people died in the earthquake (the quake killed 87,000 people altogether). He used his own money to help rebuild the town. Ihsan Khan was considered a local hero.

This is one case of a lottery winner using his money for the greater good.

Jeffrey was generous. But there were some that were greedy. His sister-in-law, Victoria Jackson, was one of those greedy ones. Greedy enough to murder Jeffrey Dampier for money. Victoria and her boyfriend kidnapped Jeffrey and demanded money. They bound his hands and forced him into a van, where he ended up being shot in the head and killed.

Victoria Jackson and Nathaniel Jackson (not related) were charged with the murders of Jeffrey Dampier. They were sentenced to life in prison.

This story just goes to show that winning the lottery is sometimes a curse, more than anything else.

Billie Bob Harrell Jr Wins Texas Lottery Then Kills Himself With Shotgun

The Lottery Winners Player Photo Collage

I created the collage of photos of lottery winners for one reason... to show you what lottery winners look like. Have a look at the collage. Now, what do lottery winners look like? They look like normal everyday folk, the people you pass on the street or in the malls, they look like your neighbors, they look like YOU. I mean, they look like average people.

People dream of winning the lottery and it could happen to you. The player photo collage is proof. Take a look. It could be you in that list.

The collage represents lottery winners from around the world, including The United States, Britain, Canada, and India.

The collage also has a running total of the winnings represented by the lottery winners. The winnings are a running total. As I add more winners, the total increases. To calculate the total, I used the advertised jackpot amount, not the after-tax total. For "cash-for-life" type of games, I included the twenty year total. For any annuities, I added the total amount of all the annuities.

I've only included people that have won at least $100,000.

J.R. Triplett Wins MegaMillions Jackpot But That Doesn't Excite Him Very Much

J.R. Triplett - Megamillions winnerLook at all that emotion on the face of J.R. Triplett... Doesn't he look excited? Well... no. J.R. won the MegaMillions jackpot of $239 million in March of 2004 and when he showed up at the prize office to claim his winnings, he told the staff, "It didn't excite me too much and to be honest, to this day it doesn't excite me too much." But, those same feelings don't extend to his wife, Peggy. She promised to "shop 'till I drop." That's every girl's dream isn't it.

What do you think Triplett's first purchase with the money was? A new car? Nope. A big house? Nope. A vacation? Nope. His first purchase was a headstone for a childhood friend that passed away 25 years ago. We told you he wasn't that excited, didn't we.

Oh, and by the way, JR Triplett waited six weeks to claim his prize so that he could talk to a lawyer to "get things straight." We know if you won, you'd be at the prize office the next morning, before it even opened, wouldn't you?

Maya Worsoff Wins Big Wagering On Football In Canada's Pro Picks Lottery

Maya WorsoffIn Canada, people can wager on sports through the lottery. In Ontario, they can do it through ProLine. People can bet on sports like hockey, football, baseball, and soccer. Basketball is not allowed because when the NBA expanded into Canada, one of the conditions was that there would be no betting on NBA games via the lottery system.

In 2007, Maya Worsoff became the biggest winner ever in Canadian lottery sports wagering. She picked the winner in 16 NFL games and won a total of $448,242.

Maya was 38 years old, a stay-at-home-mom, when she won. She told lottery officials that she was "very proud."

But guess what? This wasn't her first win in sports wagering. Prior to this, she won $96,398. Guess what again? She later won again in sports wagering, $100,000 in a game called Point Spread. That brings her total winnings in sports lotteries to $644,640, all tax free because Canada does not tax lottery winnings. May must really know her sports!

Gloria Mitchum Wins Lottery Jacpot And Goes Into Hiding

Gloria MitchumGloria Mitchum, 25 years old when she won the lottery in 1989, hated the limelight that cames with winning the lottery and went into hiding. Gloria won $35 million.

When Gloria first won the lottery, she was excited and all smiles. She quit her low paying job making beds and spoke of helping her family financially. But then the media descended upon her and salespeople hassled her. This really annoyed her and she became a recluse. She valued her privacy and just wanted to be left alone. Within a week of winning the lottery jackpot, her whereabouts became unknown. She even threatened to cut off family members from her fortune if they disclosed her whereabouts, the location of her home, or spoke to the media.

Winning the lottery and gaining newfound wealth can free a lot of people but, as in Gloria's case, it can also bring unanticipated consequences like stress and loss of freedom.

Win Lottery Jackpot In Canada Tax Free Like Jason Rinaldi And His $35 Millions

Jason Rinaldi - Tax Free Lottery WinnerDo you know what's the difference between lotteries in Canada and lotteries in The United States. First, unlike in the U.S., Canadian lottery winnings are tax free. Second, the payout is a lump sum, it doesn't get amortized over a number of years. So, a $1 million win, for example, is a $1 million win.

Jason Rinaldi must be thanking his lucky charms because the Guelph, Ontario man won the $35.3 million jackpot from OLG's 6/49 lottery. And, he gets to keep all $35.3 million of it, tax-free and in one lump-sum payment!

But Jason almost didn't buy his tickets. He was spending $20/week on lottery and it was beginning to be too much money. He almost quit playing, but decided to gic=ve it one more shot. And, good thing he did, otherwise he'd still be struggling to make ends meet.

At the time of his lottery win in October of 2008, Jason was single. That would make him one of Canada's most sought-after bachelors!

Carl Edward Furry Wins Fantasy 5 Jackpot From Florida Lottery

Carl Edward FurryFantasy 5 is a 5/36 lottery from Florida Lottery. Matching 5 out of 5 numbers wins the jackpot. However, the game is unique in that if nobody wins the jackpot, the jackpot amount gets rolled down and split amongst the 4-out-of-5 and 3-ou-of-5 winners, which is pretty cool because the secondary prizes become bigger.

However, the prizes don't always roll down as sometimes there are jackpot winners. Carl Edward Furry was one of those. He won the Fantasy 5 Jackpot.

Carl stopped into a Sunoco gas station in Lady Lake, Florida to get a coffee and a quick pick Fantasy 5 ticket. And, he won! $236,413!!!

You looking at my wrist sayin "It's so nice!"
The price bitch is diamonds, shinin disco light
Well you better help me solve my PROBLEM

Ran up on my car for carryin Rollo
But hold on, you can call me Dirty

And you want some of this Dirty
God made Dirt and Dirt bust your ass {*clap clap*}
Stop annoyin me, yeah! I play my music loud
It takes the Bastard Ol' Dirty, to move the CROWWWD

Lottery Winner William Bud Post Went Bankrupt

William Do you ever, in your wildest dreams, think you may end up bankrupt after winning a $16.2 million lottery jackpot? It does happen and it happened to William "Bud" Post. Post won the jackpot way back in 1988 and that's when his troubles began. Consider the following problems that he had:

-Within 3 months of his first annuity payment, he was half a million dollars in debt after purchasing such things as an airplane, a restaurant, and a used car lot
-His brother hired a contract killer to try to kill him
-A court order was given to stay away from his 6th wife after he fired a gunshot at her car
-His former lanlady sued him for a portion of his winnings
-He auctioned off the last 17 annuity payments because he was in debt
-Served time in prison for assault
-Went bankrupt and lived the rest of his life on a $450/month disability check
-Died of respiratory heart failure.

Does this sound like the life of a lottery winner? It just goes to show that money doesn't always bring happiness.

Anthony McGrathWhat would you do if you had won $1 million in the lottery? I'm guessing that donating to charity probably wouldn't be at the top of your list, even though that would be a noble thing to do.

High on Anthony McGrath's list of things to do is to make a donation to Amos House, where he has volunteered for many years. Amos House is a non-profit social services agency that attempts to address the issues of poverty and hunger in Rhode Island. A great and kind man, McGrath is!

McGrath had the first five numbers. But he did not have the Powerball number. Had he also had the Powerball number, he would have won the big jackpot. But I'm sure he's quite happy with a million.

Anthony McGrath attributes his big win to karma and the luck of the Irish. Gee, I wish I were Irish; I could use a million dollars right about now!

Less than one month later, Erik won $1 million in CT Lottery's $70 Million Blockbuster scratch game. So, what did Melissa think? She thought, "That's crazy. Just crazy!"

Erik runs his own business, Martineau Plumbing but plans to take some time off to take a break. We think he shouldn't take a break but, rather, go out and buy some more lottery tickets. We're sure he can win at least two more jackpots.

Gerald Muswagon Wins $10 Million In Super 7 And Hangs Himself

Sometimes winning the lottery is a curse, as it was for Gerald Muswagon. The Winnipeg, Manitoba man won the $10 million Super 7 jackpot.

The day he won the lottery in 1998 was one of the happiest days of his life, as he was all smiles picking up the check for his winnings. But within seven years, he would have spent nearly every penny that he won and got depressed. In 2005, he hung himself in his parents garage.

After winning the Super 7 lottery, he became known for throwing wild parties at his "party pad." This included plenty of drugs and alcohol. And, there was plenty of other bad behaviour too, including a police chase where he tried to outrun the cops in his Chevy Silverado at speeds of up to 180 km/h and a sexual assault charge.
