Joe Denette won some money in the Mega Millions lottery. But, he also had free tickets to a NASCAR race at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia that he won by answering trivia questions on a radio station. So, asked his mom to hold the ticket for safekeeping while he went to the race.I'm trying to think... If I win the lottery, is there anything in the world that could get me to part with my winning ticket? I'm still thinking...
Oh well, Joe Denette must really love NASCAR.
Joe Denette didn't win just anything. He won a lot of money. Joe won $76 million in Mega Millions in May of 2009. He won it by Easy Pick, meaning the computer chose a random set of numbers. Joe said he hated computers in the past, but not anymore because the computer got him the win.
Joe Denette's Mega Millions win came at the perfect time as he had been laid off from his job with a home-building company in January of 2009 and he hadn't had a job since. Now, he won't have to compete in contests to get free NASCAR tickets; he'll be able to buy as many as he wants.
Joe bought the winning ticket at Joyful Convenience Market, which is on Mudd Tavern Road in Woodford, VA. There were actually two other people in the United States that held winning tickets for the same draw. The $228 million jackpot was, thus, split three ways with each winning ticket being worth $76 million. Joyful Convenience Market also received a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
